What is the AHRC?

The Austin Housing Repair Coalition (AHRC) is a collaboration of home repair agencies in the Austin area that provides home repairs and other housing-related assistance. The AHRC formed in 2008 to leverage and coordinate diverse funds, resources, and services to ensure low-income homeowners and families enjoy healthy, safe, and energy efficient home environments. The coalition is an inter-referral network that meets regularly and collaborates on providing home assistance to fully meet each client’s need. Together, we make it possible for homeowners to thrive in the homes they have grown to love, now and in the future. This holistic approach to home repair has maintained the fabric of Austin’s diverse neighborhoods and touched the lives of many people – especially long-time residents – in the community.

What We Do

Repairs may vary depending on repair organizations, funding, and the homeowner’s needs. Some repair organizations use private contractors, some use staff, and some rely on volunteers to implement the repairs/modifications. Generally, the home repair organizations can provide the following repairs/modifications:

  • Accessibility modifications to bathroom and/or kitchen
  • Ramps
  • Electrical, plumbing, and mechanical repairs
  • Window and door repairs / replacement
  • Flooring
  • Sheetrock and painting
  • Structured repair-foundation and beam repairs
  • Roof repair
  • Exterior repair
  • Painting as related to repairs
  • Ceiling fans
  • Other repairs for health, safety and accessibility

Who We Serve

The Austin Housing Repair Coalition provides low-income families, people with disabilities, veterans, and the elderly with services that restore security, health, well-being, and independent living. Many of the families we serve are multi-generational, and the repairs also positively affect frequent visitors of the home such as grandchildren and caregivers.

Clients reside all over Austin, but a majority live in East Austin and earn below the 40% MFI level. We hope to continue expanding our services in and around the Austin community as more low-income families and seniors strive to stay in their homes and to live independently.
